About the account.

Riverbend is a 311.4-hectare grazing farm located in the picturesque Bass Coast locality of The Gurdies. The property is situated on the Gippsland Plains overlooking the Bass River. The property has been in the family for 154 years and has always been managed as a beef and/or sheep operation. The stock are rotationally grazed throughout the property based on seasonal conditions and feed availability.

The property is predominantly cleared, apart from one large remnant area, which is approximately 20 hectares in size. This remnant is protected under a Trust for Nature conservation covenant. There are also numerous areas of revegetation on the farm, including the Bass River frontage.

Deep gradational soil profiles are characteristic of the area. Soil orders are Dermosol throughout the property.

The reasoning for producing this environmental account is to measure ecosystem condition and track change over time to better inform regenerative land management practices, enhance ecosystem function and set targets for improvement.
