Manager, Environmental Account Certification

Help build the systems that make nature count.

Accounting for Nature is hiring a Manager, Environmental Account Certification. A mid-senior role for someone who enjoys working where science, systems, strategy and credibility meet.

About the role.

As Manager, Environmental Account Certification, you’ll play a central role in ensuring the quality, integrity and credibility of Environmental Accounts certified under the Accounting for Nature® Framework.

You’ll oversee the Environmental Account certification pipeline end-to-end — strengthening review processes and quality controls, managing risk, improving systems and workflows, and helping shape a certification program designed to operate effectively and efficiently at scale.

This is an opportunity to have a genuine impact on how environmental information is assessed, assured and trusted, while helping build the systems and processes needed to support the growth of environmental accounting in Australia and internationally.

Role responsibility.

You’ll work across the full certification lifecycle, including:

  • Manage and coordinate the Environmental Account certification pipeline from submission through to certification.

  • Lead technical and quality review processes, ensuring Environmental Accounts meet applicable AfN requirements.

  • Identify and manage risks relating to scientific integrity, data quality, compliance and certification outcomes.

  • Strengthen certification processes, governance, quality controls and decision-making frameworks.

  • Work with Accredited Experts, Auditors, Account Holders and internal teams to resolve technical and certification issues.

  • Interrogate complex environmental data, biodiversity measurement approaches and monitoring methods.

  • Identify opportunities to improve systems, workflows and the experience of organisations undertaking certification.

  • Help develop digital systems and data workflows that enable certification to operate efficiently at scale.

  • Contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of AfN Standards, Rules and certification processes.

  • Support the evolution of a world-class certification program capable of operating across different environmental and geographic contexts.

About you.

We’re looking for someone who combines environmental science expertise with strong systems thinking and commercial pragmatism.

You’ll bring:

🔹 Strategic thinking and a drive to help build a world-class environmental certification program.

🔹 Systems and process experience, with a track record of improving workflows, governance, quality controls or operational systems.

🔹 A sharp eye for risk and integrity, with the ability to identify issues, work through complexity and make sound decisions.

🔹 Working knowledge of environmental accounting, natural capital or environmental measurement frameworks. Knowledge of the Accounting for Nature® Framework would be well regarded.

🔹 An ecology or environmental science background, with the confidence to interrogate complex biodiversity measurement, monitoring and assessment methods.

🔹 Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to translate technical issues into practical decisions and actions.

🔹 An ability to work across Australian and international contexts, recognising different environmental, cultural, regulatory and operational settings.

🔹 A digitally minded approach, with an appetite for using technology, data, CRM and workflow systems to improve efficiency, client experience and certification outcomes.

🔹 Skills in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), data analysis and the practical application of AI and emerging technologies to improve environmental assessment, certification and decision-making.

🔹 Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work confidently with scientists, technical experts, auditors, Account Holders and senior stakeholders.

🔹 A can-do, hands-on approach, comfortable moving between strategic thinking and getting into the detail to make things happen.

Why does this role matter?

Our vision is a world where nature is valued, everywhere, by governments, business and communities.

Certification is where that ambition becomes credible.

As environmental information increasingly informs investment, policy, land management and corporate decision-making, the integrity of that information matters.

This role will help shape how nature is measured, reviewed, assured and trusted at scale.

You’ll have the opportunity to help build the systems, processes and governance that underpin credible environmental accounting and ultimately, better decisions for nature.

Why Accounting for Nature?

You’ll join a purpose-driven organisation working at the forefront of environmental accounting and natural capital measurement.

This is an opportunity to:

  • Work with a science-backed environmental accounting framework with growing Australian and international application.

  • Help shape an emerging field that is becoming increasingly important to business, government and investment.

  • Work alongside scientists, ecologists, environmental practitioners, auditors and organisations managing landscapes.

  • Influence the systems and processes that will underpin the next stage of environmental accounting.

  • Make a tangible contribution to improving how we understand and manage the state of nature.
