The Accounting for Nature® Standard enables Environmental Accounts to qualify for Certification.
Our Certification Program offers a rigorous verification of the state of nature. The Accounting for Nature® Framework has been designed to certify Environmental Accounts so that users can effectively assess, report on, and manage Environmental Assets.
At the heart of our program lies a commitment to transparency and accountability. Participants who complete our certification process acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to confidently and competently understand and report complex environmental measurements.
What sets the Accounting for Nature Certification Program apart is its comprehensive approach, offering two main pathways to achieve formal recognition for your environmental accounting efforts. You may seek to have your account classified as either:
Certified - AfN Verified.
Accounting for Nature reviews the Environmental Account against a standardised checklist and confirms the Account through a Technical Assessment.
Certified - Independent Audit.
Requires third-party verification by an Accounting for Nature® Accredited Auditor. Learn more about the audit & verification pathway.
Once Certified, Accounts are issued a Certificate of Certification, a Certification Passport & relevant Trustmark to make verified claims.
Certified Accounts are also publicly listed on our Environmental Account Registry. The registry facilitates the clear and transparent listing of registered and Certified accounts, as well as deregistered or retired accounts, paving the way for tangible progress in environmental stewardship.

Every Certified Account is documented for public scrutiny, whether linked to carbon offset co-benefit projects, conservation efforts, or other purposes. This fosters a culture of accountability, compelling organisations to uphold their environmental commitments and demonstrate measurable progress.

Certified accounts listed on the registry undergo rigorous evaluation and verification processes, ensuring adherence to our Standard and best practices.
