This Environmental Account documents the condition of two environmental assets, native vegetation and soil, at the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture's Dairy Research Facility (TDRF). Located at Nunns Road, Elliott, on Tasmania's North-West Coast, the TDRF is a 230-hectare working dairy farm and research facility. TIA carries out applied dairy research alongside day-to-day farm operations on the property, which features remnant native vegetation, highly productive ferrosol soils, waterways, farm dams, and riparian areas. These support biodiversity, agricultural production, water regulation, and carbon sequestration.

This natural capital account supports on-farm decision making, helping align farm management with milk processor and industry sustainability expectations, as well as TIA's vision and strategic priorities. It was established as part of an on-farm natural capital accounting demonstration, a partnership between Cradle Coast NRM and TIA, with funding from the Australian Government's Climate Smart Agriculture Program. The goal is to demonstrate the value of accounting for, and actively considering, natural values and ecosystem services on north-west Tasmanian dairy farms. The result is an AfN-Verified Environmental Account that informs farm management and highlights emerging environmental market opportunities for farmers.
