Users of the Framework can find accredited environmental specialists or accounting and auditing professionals through our directory.

Experts.

It all begins with you! Environmental Accounts are developed using the network of Accounting for Nature® Accredited Experts. Anyone advising on Environmental Account building or the application of the Accounting for Nature® Framework needs to be accredited as an Expert. There are two options available to become an Accredited Expert.

Asset Expert

You have demonstrated applied scientific expertise and can nominate your area of specialisation from our natural asset classifications (e.g. “native vegetation”, “fauna”, “soil” etc). In addition to your scientific expertise, you have the capability to develop environmental accounts.

General Expert

You have demonstrated general experience in fields related to environmental or sustainability accounting and have the capacity to lead the development of environmental accounts. Under this option, we recommend the support of an Asset Expert where Methods require specialist scientific expertise for experimental design or ecological monitoring or measurement.

How to apply?

Before submitting your application to become an Accredited Expert, we recommend you carefully read through the Expert Rules, as these contain detailed information on how to obtain and maintain Expert Accreditation.

To become an Accredited Expert, all applicants must do the following;

Applicants must also meet the following eligibility requirements;

  • Relevant vocational or tertiary-level qualifications in natural sciences, environment, sustainability management or other related disciplines; and

  • A minimum of 3 years of work experience in a related field, such as the application of environmental accounting, natural resource audits, environmental impact studies, ecological surveys, monitoring & management of environmental assets etc.

Applicants with other relevant skills and experience, such as a background in applying financial, environmental, or carbon accounting, can contact us to assess their eligibility to be an Accredited Expert before undertaking the online course.  

How much does it cost?

The Accredited Expert or Auditor initial registration fee is $330 (inc GST). An annual renewal fee of $165 (inc GST) applies for all Experts and Auditors to maintain their membership.

Auditors.

Accredited Auditors are experienced auditors who have the skills to audit and verify the rigour and accuracy of certified Environmental Accounts.

An Accredited Auditor must be engaged by users to achieve our highest level of certification for an Environmental Account.

How to apply?

Before submitting your application to become an Accredited Auditor, we recommend you carefully read through the Audit Rules, as these contain detailed information on how to obtain and maintain Auditor Accreditation.

To become an Accredited Auditor, all applicants must do the following:

Applicants must also meet the following eligibility requirements;

  • Relevant tertiary-level qualifications (e.g. accounting, finance etc.)

  • Minimum experience in preparing audits (1000 hours)

  • Demonstrated audit, assurance, and audit team leadership experience

  • Knowledge of the Accounting for Nature® Framework and account development process.
