Greening Australia has registered Caddigat Road Native Vegetation Restoration and is currently in the process of developing an Environmental Account to submit for certification.

About the account.

Located on Wolgalu Country in the Monaro region of New South Wales, this property has been used for sheep grazing and fine wool production for many decades but still retains stands of native vegetation and is home to threatened flora and fauna. Its position beside the Murrumbidgee River and adjacent to protected areas makes it a valuable conservation asset in this landscape.

Greening Australia aims to improve the biodiversity and climate resilience of local ecosystems through broadscale planting of a diversity of native species at the property. The main revegetation objective is to restore around 430 hectares (c. 60% of the property) of grassy woodlands via a biodiverse carbon project with 100-year permanence under the environmental planting method. The property will be revegetated using species native to this landscape, predominantly restoring trees and shrubs that have been cleared.

Re-establishing the canopy species will help to increase the extent of grassy woodlands, a vegetation type at risk of disappearing. The project is also expected to have an impact beyond its borders, extending the area of habitat available to native species by connecting the riparian zone along the Murrumbidgee River with remnant vegetation on the slopes.

The purpose of this Environmental Account is to monitor and communicate the condition change in native vegetation over time as a result of the project.
