About the Environmental Account.

This Environmental Account documents the condition of native vegetation across Hewitt’s Ambalindum aggregation in the Northern Territory. The aggregation covers 546,108 hectares at the intersection of the MacDonnell Ranges, Simpson–Strzelecki Dunefields and Burt Plain bioregions. Developed under the Accounting for Nature® Framework, the assessment establishes a baseline Econd® score using the Integrated Vegetation Condition Method (AfN-METHOD-V-10), which combines on-ground surveys with high-resolution drone imagery. The account captures the extent and condition of key arid-zone vegetation types including Acacia shrublands, alluvial woodlands, gidgee woodlands, ironwood communities and extensive spinifex and tussock grasslands. These landscapes support cattle grazing and exhibit varying levels of ecological pressure influenced by fire, erosion, water availability and historical management practices. This work forms part of Hewitt’s Food for the Future Program, delivered with Meat & Livestock Australia and Bush Heritage Australia, to deepen understanding of biodiversity values and guide long-term natural capital stewardship across its portfolio.
