About the
Environmetal Account.

Invergeldie is one of the largest and most complex estates in the Oxygen Conservation portfolio. Each estate has its own bespoke set of environmental and social targets, developed specifically for its landscape.

By 2027, Invergeldie is targeted to become a leading example of environmental restoration in Scotland. Planned works include the planting of 1.5 million native trees and the large-scale restoration of 1,300 acres of peatland and wetland habitats, with the aim of enhancing biodiversity and building a more resilient natural environment.

Restoration plans for Invergeldie extend beyond tree planting and habitat work. In partnership with CreditNature and Ecosulis, options are being explored to remove redundant barriers that fragment the landscape, reintroduce lost herbivores to graze and shape the land, and create new niches for wildlife. This includes wetlands supporting wading birds, regenerating native woodland, and ground rich in invertebrate life.

The Invergeldie Environmental Account will measure the change in environmental condition associated with these restoration efforts. The Accredited Method underpinning this Environmental Account is CreditNature’s NARIA Framework, which measures ecosystem condition through four distinct metrics: Trophic Function, Bird Trait Diversity, Landscape Connectivity, and Vegetation Spatial Diversity.

About the Environmental Account Holder.

Oxygen Conservation acquired the Invergeldie Estate through a special purpose vehicle, Invergeldie Conservation Limited, in 2022. Oxygen Conservation exists to scale conservation. Founded on the belief that business has a vital role to play in tackling the climate and biodiversity crises, it acquired Invergeldie as one of several estates delivering landscape-scale restoration through woodland creation, peatland restoration and habitat creation, with this work also generating high-quality natural capital products, including nature credits.

They invest directly in the acquisition of land to protect and restore natural processes at scale. Across 12 estates and over 50,000 acres, their business model is centred around the sale of high quality, impactful natural capital credits generated through the protection and restoration of nature, woodlands, peatlands, grasslands, rivers, and native species within the UK.

Alongside natural capital, they explore a range of other revenue streams to support the business case for investing in nature, including renewables, built property, ecotourism, and regenerative agriculture. Their ambition is to demonstrate that private sector finance can be used to fund nature recovery at scale, reinvesting the profit they generate to further Scale Conservation.
