About the account.

The Eco Park Habitat Environmental Account documents the condition and extent of native vegetation being restored as part of a carbon sequestration and habitat restoration project within a 79 ha grazing and native forest conservation enterprise. The project focuses on a 10.5 ha planting area that spans floodplain swampy land, sandy well-drained flats, and hillslope landscapes.

The project area was historically subject to grazing and is now being restored to enhance ecological function and strengthen a vegetation corridor connecting to Tyagarah Nature Reserve. Restoration activities target the establishment of coastal floodplain wetland, riparian forest, and littoral rainforest communities, contributing to improved habitat availability and landscape connectivity.

These restored ecosystems provide important habitat for threatened fauna, including the endangered koala, Glossy-Black cockatoo , and Wompoo Fruit-dove, as well as threatened plant communities. The account provides a baseline for measuring changes in vegetation condition over time and supports the transparent reporting of biodiversity and carbon co-benefits associated with the project.

About the Account Holder.

Eco Park Habitat is the land manager for Eagle Farm, where the Environmental Account is located. Eagle Farm has run beef cattle on 20 ha of fertile river flat pasture for over 30 years and has kept the remaining 53 ha of diverse native coastal forest untouched and protected during that time.

The riparian zones and surrounding forests on the property are known koala corridors and habitats, and the Account Holder is concerned about the impact cattle have on these areas. Many koalas and other native animals are frequently seen on the ground in and around the proposed reforestation corridor project. In response, the Account Holder has chosen to restore 10 ha of productive farmland into diverse habitat that matches the surrounding vegetation types. This will not only improve koala habitat but also benefit nectar feeders, birds, and animals, and create a wildlife corridor connecting the property to adjoining nature reserves, while repairing and revegetating the riparian zones of Simpsons Creek and tributaries. The project will sequester carbon, enhance biodiversity, and advance climate resilience and productivity through restoration of ecosystems.
