About the account.

The Davis Bently Planting Project aims to sequester carbon while restoring habitat for threatened species, including the endangered Koala, Glossy-black Cockatoo, Spotted-tailed Quoll, and the threatened Lowland Subtropical Rainforest plant community. The project covers 10.50 hectares across four Carbon Estimation Areas (CEAs) within a larger (165 ha) grazing and native forest management enterprise.

The planting area encompasses two key landscape features—floodplain swampy land and well-drained hillslope land—which have been historically impacted by livestock grazing. Restoration activities will re-establish floodplain wetland and wet sclerophyll forest, strengthening a key vegetation corridor that connects riparian tributaries of the mid-Richmond Valley with the elevated landscapes of the Mackellar Range.

About the Account Holder.

Tony Davis, the account holder, is the landholder of Davis Bentley Farm. Tony and his family have farmed this subtropical grazing property and managed native forest for conservation purposes for over 45 years. Tony seeks to continue with beef production but is also wishes to set aside an area for carbon sequestration and biodiversity outcomes. The Davis’s have chosen to restore their less productive farmland to natural forest. They have secured expert advice from government and assistance from revegetation practitioners to implement the project. The carbon project area will connect with surrounding habitat on the property and adjoining public lands.

This Environmental Account is supported by North Coast Local Land Services. Local Land Services is supporting on-farm carbon management and state net zero emissions targets in North Coast NSW. Local Land Servies is supporting the NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) Living Carbon grants program with on-ground work. This program will provide financial and technical support to land managers to design, plan and implement carbon and biodiversity plantings across the North Coast.
