About the account.
Eringoarrah Pty Ltd is a family-owned farming enterprise spanning 7,750 ha of Eringoarrah Station in the Riverina in Southern NSW. Eringoarrah Station is located 25kms east of Wagga Wagga. Previously a mixed-farming enterprise, Eringoarrah Pty Ltd has transitioned Eringoarrah Station to a grazing operation over the past two years and it is home to 2,000 Hereford breeding cows. The offspring of those breeding cows graze the Eringoarrah pastures until approximately 12-months of age. At that stage, a portion of heifers are retained to join the breeding herd, while the remainder of heifers and the steers go to market. When climatic conditions allow it, several thousand head of sheep also graze the property.
Supported by the Living Carbon Program, Eringoarrah is implementing a 97-hectare carbon planting project. The project is registered with the Clean Energy Regulator under the ACCU Scheme Environmental Plantings Pilot 2014 method. The planting is intended to provide many co-benefits including creating shelterbelts for livestock, wildlife corridors that enhance native biodiversity and erosion control along creek beds.
The purpose of this Environmental Account is to measure, document and communicate the improvement in biodiversity, specifically the composition and condition of vegetation, in association with the planting project. It will also assist in guiding the land managers’ decision-making regarding the management of the vegetation, including but not limited to the maintenance of forest canopy cover as required by the ACCU Scheme.
The Environmental Account consists of one project-scale Asset Account covering 97 hectares which makes up 1.3% of the total area managed by Eringoarrah Pty Ltd. The Asset Account consists of six individual parts of the property that make up the Living Carbon project boundary. The Asset Account area aligns with the area eligible for planting, any exclusion areas that cannot be planted have been excluded from the Account area. This ensures that only the areas of revegetation are being monitored and reported on.
